Steel Manufacturing: Better Control From Plate to Finished Product
Confidential Client • Custom Steel Manufacturing
Challenge
A steel manufacturer producing gates, steel bars and sections to customer designs was relying on Tally and disconnected processes. Multi-unit inventory, multi-step bills of materials, vendor RFQs, HR and payroll were difficult to coordinate. Leftover steel from production was especially hard to track, making it difficult to manage its reuse or sale.
Solution
Blue Bridge proposed a single Odoo system connecting inventory, manufacturing, purchasing, HR, payroll and accounting. The approach focused on practical workflows and minimal tracking. Recording the raw material left after manufacturing resolved the difficulty of managing its sale and helped the business make better use of its inventory.
Result
Better use of steel inventory through simple leftover-material tracking
Clearer handling of balance raw material available for sale
A unified Odoo plan for manufacturing, purchasing, inventory, HR and payroll
Custom Manufacturing, Disconnected Systems
The client buys steel plates from the market and manufactures gates, steel bars, steel sections and other products to customer designs. Each order needs a clear link between the materials purchased, the production steps and the finished product. Tally and a collection of unorganised processes were not giving the team that connected view.
Inventory had to be managed across multiple units of measure, while manufacturing required multi-step bills of materials. The team also needed to send RFQs to several vendors and manage HR and payroll. These activities were difficult to coordinate across separate systems. One particularly practical problem was the balance raw material left after production: without simple tracking, the business struggled to manage what remained and what could be sold.

One System, With Only the Tracking That Matters
Blue Bridge systematically proposed a single Odoo setup to bring these activities together. The plan covered multi-unit inventory, multi-step bills of materials, vendor RFQs, HR, payroll and accounting, rather than treating each problem as a separate software requirement. The focus was on making the workflow manageable without burdening the team with unnecessary tracking.
A key improvement came from keeping a simple record of the raw material remaining after manufacturing. This resolved the difficulty of handling the sale of balance material and gave the business better visibility into what was still available. With minimal tracking, the company could make better use of its steel inventory instead of losing sight of material once a production job was complete.
